Due to the high efficiency of WiMAX technology, it has significantly risen in importance as an alternative to DSL connection. More than 200 Technological enterprises have entered the WiMAX forum in order to develop the next generation standards. These include hardware manufacturers and telecommunication carriers such as Siemens Mobile, AT&T, Ericsson and British Telecom.
WiMAX resembles its predecessor WLAN in voice transmission which is based on Internet Protocol (VoIP). For this application WiMAX has a QoS mode.
